Mo was born on February 19, 1988, in Lambeth, London, and was named Mosiah Bikila Gilligan. His parents, although British, are of St. Lucian and Jamaican descent. During his time in Pimlico studying performing arts, he developed an interest in comedy.
His professional career started out in retail, but his love for comedy would see him upload videos onto social media outlets. Eventually his popularity grew, and people started noticing him, including the customers that would walk into the store where he worked. His work grabbed the attention of Canadian rapper Drake, and in 2017, Drake quoted Gilligan's insanely funny comedy on his social media profile, and from then on, Mo blew up.
Mo cites people like Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle as influences for his work, so much so that he watched one of Rock's specials for motivation before doing his first ever, 'longest' show. On the UK's Channel 4, he co-hosts The Big Narstie Show with grime legend Big Narstie. Together, they have become the originators of "grime comedy."
In 2019, he got his own show on the same channel called "The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan," which first aired in July 2019. During that same year, but a little later, his first ever comedy special on streaming giant Netflix was released globally to one hundred and ninety countries. It was called "Mo Gilligan: Momentum."
Mo also produced the hour-long, "Black, British, and Funny" documentary for Black History Month, where he would look at the evolution of the black comedy scene, from its earliest performers like Danny 'Slim' Gray, Angie Le Mar, Richard Blackwood, and Rudi Lickwood to more contemporary figures like Michael Dapaah and Kayode Ewumi.
There is no stopping his rise to fame as he progresses to the stratosphere and beyond. He has several awards, including, but not limited to, five RTS Awards and three BAFTAS. His energy is infectious, and his tours are incredible. The Times even called him "The Funniest Man in Britain." Nobody will want to miss out on this awesome event, and you can expect there to be a huge rush for tickets. It is paramount that you secure yours right here and now before they sell out.
